In our new blog series, we answer your questions about how you can manage your own electronic locking system with the help of our blueCompact App.

What many people are asking themselves about this subject: How secure is an app to protect your own home? What we can say up front is:

Unlike with other manufacturers, with us you do NOT use your smartphone as a key, but only use your app to activate or block keys. To put it more precisely: in order to set up and manage your locking system.

You also need your Masterkey on hand every time you want to change or assign authorisations. So a password on the app provides you with double protection. As such, the security-related data is NOT stored in a cloud or on the smartphone*, but only on the Masterkey!

However, if a key is lost, you can block it directly with your app. There is hardly a quicker way to restore security after losing a key.

In the following, we explain how to use the blueCompact App using the iOS operating system as an example.

The videos show you precisely this, as well as how to initialise an active key for the Masterkey when you start your app for the first time.

Managing your blueCompact locking system is child’s play. As described above, all you need is a smartphone, our blueCompact App and your Masterkey. The blueCompact App can thus be seen as the user interface of the Masterkey, while the Masterkey saves all the knowledge.

To insert a key, proceed as follows:

1. Open the blueCompact App and then the “key menu”
2. Tap “+” in the top right corner of the “Key menu”
3. Tap on “Insert key”
4. Connect the Masterkey and key with the designated key adapter.

The key now appears in your app and you have the option of naming it individually. The inserted key is displayed in the app in its actual colour.

This also works just as easily with cylinders.

Of course, you can also manage your keys in the key menu afterwards. This is done as follows:

1. Select the key you want to edit. The details on the key are then displayed.
Important: Key groups give you a better oversight of key management. Key groups can be used to organise keys for specific groups such as family members or company employees.
2. Tap on the name of the key.
3. Rename the key if necessary.
4. Tap on the colour of the key.
5. Change the colour of the key if necessary.
6. Confirm information.

Of course, it may also happen that you have a key that you cannot directly assign to someone. With the help of the app and the Masterkey, this problem can be solved within seconds:

1. Access the key menu
2. Tap on “+”
3. Tap on “Identify key”
4. Connect the Masterkey and key with the key adapter.

Once the key has been read, the key specifications are displayed immediately.

What happens if I lose my Masterkey?

We always recommend keeping the Masterkey in a safe place and not assigning locking authorisations to it. If you lose it or it is stolen nonetheless, it will be useless for the finder or thief, as without any locking authorisations, the Masterkey will only work in conjunction with the app (password-protected). By the way: The Masterkey can also be used to set up remote authorisation. Find out more in our next blog post.
In such a case, you should nevertheless purchase a new active key from your local dealer as quickly as possible, which you then initialise directly into a Masterkey using the app. The old Masterkey then loses its validity.
