blueEvo: New access control for high requirements

Innovative security architecture provides holistic protection

Winkhaus is entering the Light + Building stage with a ground-breaking innovation: blueEvo, the latest generation of electronic access control. The pioneering product concept includes a holistic security architecture, an extensive range of components and intuitively operated hardware and software. In this way, the most diverse requirements for the use of the locking system in a wide range of areas are met.

Winkhaus revolutionised locking technology with blueChip over two decades ago. In the meantime, numerous well-known properties worldwide have been equipped with electronic locking systems from Winkhaus. blueEvo consistently continues this tradition.

Holistic security architecture
From administration software to door components – developed and produced in Germany: blueEvo and the associated blueControl software meet the highest security standards. The system allows users to meet KRITIS requirements for physical building access and is therefore not only suitable for use in public and administrative areas (such as utilities or telecommunications providers), industry and offices, but also well suited for healthcare facilities.

"For the new blueEvo system platform, which is an interplay of security architecture, software backend with API, software frontend and door components as well as different types of identification media, above all the user key with Mifare® DESFire® EV3 technology, we have developed a security concept in cooperation with proven experts from the areas of cyber physical systems and security management that consistently protects the confidentiality, integrity and authenticity of the system and authorisation data," explains Dr. Volker Brink, Head of Access Control Product Management at Winkhaus.

The hardware components of the new electronic system are available in a wide range and protected against various mechanical and electronic attacks. For example, the consistently used Mifare® DESFire® EV3 technology reliably protects sensitive data in the components against hacker attacks. Until now Winkhaus has been the only supplier to successfully integrate these technologies into flush-mounted cylinders in the smallest possible space. In addition, key safes are used that are certified according to Common Criteria EAL 6+.

Versatile applications
Just like its predecessors blueChip and blueSmart, blueEvo is also a key-operated locking system. However, Winkhaus additionally offers ID cards, key tags and transponder bracelets, which are used in combination with the corresponding component types.

What is more, a wide range of profile cylinders, access readers and door handle fittings for indoor and outdoor areas provides extensive options for almost every application area. Regardless of whether they are offline, online or virtually networked systems – Winkhaus always offers the right solution and also enables mixed operation within one locking system.

Intuitive operation
Both the hardware and software are convincingly user-friendly. The usual operation of transponder keys, as with a mechanical locking system, ensures a positive user experience for users of all ages.

Programming the components in the blueControl software is also extremely intuitive thanks to a responsive software interface developed together with UX designers. This responsive, browser-based application is not only visually appealing and well structured, but is also supported by a Power Search function. All changes to be made by the system administrator can be implemented quickly and easily. If one of the robust user keys is lost, it can be immediately blocked with just a few mouse clicks. Thanks to so-called Virtual Network Hubs (readers with access and booking function), the change of locking authorisations becomes effective immediately, even in larger systems without manual programming effort, as soon as the identification medium is presented again at the Virtual Network Hub. At the same time, blueEvo works with authorisation intervals that run automatically. This ensures a very high level of security in the building, even in the event of key loss.
